SKF Writing for Children

I've been a children's writer for seven years and a ICT teaching assistant at a junior school. I'm a lover of butterflies and cats. I love Tai chilly crisps and mint crumbles. Favourite food freshly cooled Lobster, champange and strawberries.

Children's writing competition

I've just recently run a children's writing competition. The objective to write a scary story. The children had to scar me. They did. There were many heads chopped off, blood and guts. As if that wasn't enough, I was turned into a Zombie, Vampires were lurking and lots of killer dolls!! What I found from this was that children given the freedom to write without worry about spelling, grammar and structure they can tap into their creative side and write powerful pieces of work. I'm hoping to keep with going and continue to encourage children to use their imagination in all aspects of their writing.
Now I'm off to write up the Troggle School dictionary - it has some amazing words like - Goboils- Deadsplurge - Soapysloths. I wonder if you can guess what any of those mean?

Plotting

Well....I've tried getting on to the Writers' News website to chat to the talkbackers and can't get in. This is so frustrating. I enjoy my fix of talkback in the morning and again in the evening. It's great to find out what is going on with other writers. It's a great place to get help when you've written yourself into a corner, or the day of non-writing has driven you mad or just to take time out between chapters for a well earned break. But I can do neither today or yesterday as I can't get the page to load. The rest of the site is fine, it's only talkback that isn't working.
Today is plotting day for both of my new projects. I'm taking on two this time as I'm unsure which to go for. Small Boy in Kenya or Rooted in vengeance. The plotting will sort that out. The one that flows better will be the one I work on. I'll let you know which I go for later.

It's finished...

I've just finished writing my last sentence of Troggle School and will be printing off my hard copy tomorrow. Then it'll be put away for a couple of months before I look at it again. I'm pleased with it so far, but it will need a lot of editing.

Tomorrow I'll start on my book for the 5-7 years market about a young boy in Kenya. I've been looking forward to getting to know the main character a little more. Now's my chance.

The end is in sight...

So I suppose you all think that I do look like Yoda!! Well as long as I have his insight and intelligence then I don't suppose I can complain.
You may wonder where I've been? or not. I've been having nightmares about the 10' wall that has appeared outside my kitchen window! I fear it might fall down on my head, especially if I take down my shed which is supporting the whole structure that has been erected attached to my property with out thought for my feelings, but in this day and age who cares? No one.
Anyway, while trying to ignore the wall, builders sticking scaffolding up against my house (without permission) and climbing over my shed to do work (again without permission) I've managed to do a wee bit of writing. I'm almost finished Troggle School and know it will be finished by the end of the week. It is sprinting to the end. Yippy!
Then I'm on to the next project A Small Boy in Kenya which I'm hoping Tamarind will like. I've submitted to them before and they've liked my style and work, but had published one similar. But did ask to send them something else. So this will be for them.
So I'm off to write....

What a busy week!

I'm now almost at the end of my latest novel. I seem to keep saying that, but it is true. The time just seems to be running away with out me. I can see the end and can't wait until Wednesday when I can really get down to writing again.
I've been reading Rift by Beverley Birch and am loving it. Seekers I've yet to start but it is waiting in the wings, like everything I need more time. Someone once said that time is a state of mind. Hmmmm that must mean I've a very cluttered mind. Well I guess that is true, I have too many things running around inside my mind.
Anyway, I'm off to work and if I'm lucky I'll get an hour or two to write tonight. Until next time...
